My Blog:
This blog is a start, a beginning, a conveyance of my passion for gardens of all kinds.
For those loyal customers of D and B Tree Company who may have not met me, my name is Jake Farmer. I am the landscape designer here at D and B and look forward to meeting all of you. My view on landscaping may be different than those of other designers or landscapers you have dealt with. For me, landscaping and gardening is a way of life, it is time enjoyed with loved ones or time to unwind alone while pulling those pesky weeds or pruning that prized specimen. The love of gardening was instilled in me at a very young age by many, but especially my mother who was always teaching me names of plants and care techniques for those mentioned plants. I want to encourage all of my customers and friends to teach your own family the pleasures of gardening.
The purpose for this blog and website is to instill a desire to be outside in your backyard rather than in your home in front of a TV. Monthly, you will see a tribute to one of my favorite plants and more than likely a tribute to a family member or friend which has greatly influenced me. I encourage all of you to call me at my office at any time with questions or comments. I would also love pictures of all gardens and especially updated photos of gardens which I have created as they mature.
I am always excited at all of the different gardens that I get to see, improve, and maintain. I also love the people which I come in contact with, the different accents, colors of skin, and tastes that they posses. I want to encourage all potential clients to not be scared of doing something a little different; these are the things that make a house your home, a landscape your garden. I will always strive to be on the cusp of new ideas and an innovator of originality. My desire for this company and for my career is to be one that is thought of as an example, a standard to be held to.
On this site, you will continue to see many, many updates as we continue to make masterpieces of ordinary backyards, I encourage you to check back monthly and do sign up for our email newsletter which will be me giving you an endless wealth of knowledge and inspiration so that you may make your own landscape better and better as the seasons change and the years go by.
This month’s tribute goes to one of my true favorite plants and my favorite curator thereof……..ready? The plant is Coleus, with beautiful colored foliage and interest throughout the year. There are countless varieties and colors, some for sun, some for shade, and some in between. Go right now, as fast as you can, and buy some and plant them in your favorite spot, you can thank me later. The person, who else? …………My mother, Sheri Farmer, who makes my everyday seem brighter after a simple phone call in which she asks why I haven’t called her and she follows it with an I love you. She also happens to be the person who first introduced me to this plant, Coleus, at the young age of 5 years old. So here’s to you, Mom, you’re great.
