Monterey Oak Quercus polymorpha

Monterey Oak is an excellent yard tree that grows between 30 to 80 feet in height and around 60 feet wide. It is a good combination of fast growing and long living tree. This tree starts off tall and pyramidal and finishes by spreading out to a rounded form. This hardy tree is resistant to oak wilt and quite drought tolerant. It maintains the green leaves the majority of the year, blocking sound, views, and winds.

Mountain Laurel Sophora secundiflora

Thick, glossy, evergreen leaves on a compact, upright shrub, maturing into a small, multi-trunked tree. Cascades of vibrant purple flowers in spring look like clusters of grapes. Strong sweet fragrance. Woody pods contain bright red, bean-like seeds in fall. It has a height of 15 feet and width of 10 feet. Good for sun or partial shade and hardy in drought conditions.

Nellie R. Stevens Holly Ilex x 'Nellie R. Stevens'

This is a handsome, evergreen tree of the broadleaf variety. It is a fast grower, growing to a height around 30 feet and width around 15 feet at the base, with a pyramidal shape. It can be pruned to a hedge form. It has spiny, dark green, glossy leaves and round red berries on females. It can be used as an ornamental tree or for a privacy screen. The branches can be cut for use in seasonal decoration.

Pecan- Native Carya illinoinensis

This is a large tree of the Hickory family, native to North America. It bears sweet edible nuts, deep brown in color, that range from 1 to 2 inches in length. It is a rapid growing tree that usually gets from 70 to 100 feet tall, but can grow as tall as 150 feet and higher with a width of 150 and more. This noble tree can grow to be over 150 years old. Their trunks can get more than three feet in diameter. This tree is the Texas state tree. Every native pecan tree produces a nut that is its own unique variety. Thus there are many millions of unique native pecan varieties. It is an excellent tree for shade and durability.

Possum Haw Holly Ilex decidua

This 'yaupon-like plant without any leaves' attracts attention because of its spectacular and unique presentation of red, orange, and yellow fruit, which appear when the foliage seasonally drops. It is useful in the landscape as large shrubs or small trees, and may occur with single or multiple trunks. Female plants are preferred, since male selections are fruitless and provide little ornamental value. Male-flowering plants are more common, but only a few males need to be positioned in the landscape to assure pollination for females. It thrives in a wide variety of soil and moisture conditions. It grows quickly and is a beautiful and potentially useful small tree adapted to many conditions. It has a height from 8 to 15 feet and width from 8 to 10 feet in nature, and can get a little larger in home cultivation. It is a popular choice for many home owners.

Purple Leaf Plum Prunus cerasifera

Ornate, round headed tree that grows 15 to 30 feet high and 10 to 20 feet wide. It has fragrant white or pink spring flowers, and vibrant shades of red, bronze, purple, and almost black leaves. Very popular due to the unusual leaf color, it is a superb tree that will suit any garden. Although not grown for the fruit, it has a small crop of plums 2 inches in diameter that are quite tasty.
