Tree Information

Arizona Cypress Cupressus arizonica

This coniferous tree is valued as a large wind break tree or tall screen. It is a drought resistant tree when established. Usually grows to a height of 40 to 60 feet tall and width of around 20 feet. The foliage is soft, scale-like needles and varies from green, blue, and silver in color. Forms a large pyramidal tree that can be more rounded with age. This fragrant tree is an excellent choice for shaping into hedges or shrubs.

Bald Cypress Taxodium distichum

A lofty, deciduous conifer of slender, pyramidal habit that grows to a height of 50 to 120 ft. It displays rather attractive reddish brown, fibrous bark. Their needle-like leaves grow individually from the twig. Leaves are soft and feathery in appearance with a fernlike shape. These stunning, shapely trees are a bright yellow green in spring, becoming a soft medium green over the summer, then rusty red in fall. They tolerate dry periods just fine and are sturdy enough to withstand high winds.

Bradford Pear Pyrus calleryana

A decorative tree that has an array of features year round. The showy, white flowers appear during spring growth, often before the leaves. In summer, the foliage is dark green and very smooth, and in autumn the leaves commonly turn brilliant colors, anything from yellow and orange to more common red, pink, purple, and bronze. Sometimes, several of these colors may be present on an individual leaf. It is a very tolerant and disease resistant tree growing to a height of 25 to 50 feet tall and 20 to 30 feet wide.

Dwarf Burford Holly Ilex cornuta

This is a miniature version of one of the most popular hollies. It has a seasonal abundance of large, bright red berries without needing pollination, though it will produce even more berries with a companion. It produces small cream colored flowers in the spring. It grows from 4 to 6 feet high and wide. The 'dwarf' portion of this name is in reference to the rate of growth, not the actual mature size. It has thick leaf coverage, making a superb, dense hedge or border plant. It can also be used as a windbreak, background, or foundation plant.

Burr Oak Quercus macrocarpa

This is a majestic tree with a height of 60 to 70 ft. and width of 60 to 90 ft. It has a long taproot which makes it very drought-tolerant. It is also fast growing and long-lived. Burr oak is noted for its very large leaves and acorns: the leaves are from one-half to one foot long, and acorns can be as large as 2 inches long and wide, enclosed in a cup with fringe on the edge. With medium-low water requirements and high heat tolerance, it is a perfect shade tree.

Carolina Cherry Laurel Prunus caroliniana

The Cherry Laurel is known for its tiny, cream-white flowers that appear in thick, fragrant clusters in early spring. The leaves are dark-green in color and have a glossy finish. It has small black berries in the fall. It is commonly used for trimmed hedges or screens. It has a rapid growth rate reaching a height from 20 to 40 feet and a width from 15 to 20 feet. It can be used in flower arrangements, it’s easy to transplant, and withstands heavy pruning.
